THE HOME DEPOT
Little Apron Academy Child Development Center
Scope of Work
New 37,000 square foot school for children aged birth through five and two classrooms for school age with full service kitchen, five playgrounds, 22 classrooms, two playrooms and office space. The building connects to the Store Support Center office tower via a pedestrian bridge allowing employees to park behind the center and enter through a secondary approach. The playgrounds are divided by age groups with a shared basketball court and sprayground for all ages.
Design Approach
The design is conceived to show children the construction process. Wood slat detailing around classrooms with exposed fasteners, stacked wood benches, a workshop for small projects narrate the concept on the interior. The theme continues to the exterior, into the playground spaces, culminating in a wood fort structure. The exterior design mimics the existing Store Support Center, utilizing metal panels and storefront glass.
