PULLMAN YARD

Master Plan

Scope of Work

Adaptive reuse of an 150,000 square foot train maintenance facility in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta into a multi faceted complex of recreational playspace, gymnasiums, theater and other community amenities.

Design Approach

The client, Atlanta Contact Point, wished to create a space for the community to foster relationships and give children opportunities to play, learn and explore art. The strategy was to allow the large sheds on the interior to be restored as containers by keeping all of the program as floating objects within the space. The large front shed building would be reskinned to promote the complex with a large steel truss and glass billboard. The truss would also serve as an exterior perimeter walking track around the gymnasium space.
