GEORGIA TECH

Children's Campus

Scope of Work

10,500 s.f. renovation of an existing walk out  basement shell space in a residential apartment building for the Georgia Institute of Technology.  The center was designed to accommodate 100 preschool children with an adjacent new playground space.

Design Approach

Because of the presence of a myriad of utilities serving the floors above and undulating exterior walls, the design strategy was to work with and enhance the unique site conditions.  The primary challenge was utilizing the small amount of exterior exposure in the space for classrooms while using the basement walls for services and circulation.  The walls are layered with printed murals to bring warmth and a feeling of nature inside. The layering of the walls provides necessary depth and allows for a multitude of colors and textures.
